Youth and Community Prevention Intern

The Youth and Community Prevention Intern will educate the community on ways to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault.  This will include community outreach and prevention education to pre-kindergarten through 12th grade children and families as well as collaboration with community agencies and other children’s programs to promote children’s safety and resource options.

Experience and requirements:

  • Willingness to learn about the dynamics of domestic abuse and sexual assault
  • Comply with all organizational personnel policies
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Google tools
  • Maintain a professional, confidential, non-judgmental relationship with all clients
  • Submit a monthly report to your supervisor and the Executive Director to include service statistics, presentations, and work activities

Children’s Programming Intern

The Children’s Programming Intern will develop programming tools and activities to facilitate working with children who have been either primary or secondary victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.  Interns will be able to service children through the utilization of these tools.  Interns will have the opportunity to network with other community resources and agencies to identify unmet needs for children in the county and develop and enhance service options.

Experience and requirements:

  • Willingness to learn about the dynamics of domestic abuse and sexual assault
  • Willingness to learn about developmental stages of children and the effects of trauma on children throughout the different stages of their development

Shelter Case Management Intern

The Shelter Case Management Intern will work as an advocate for domestic violence and sexual assault clients in determining their needs and developing goals.  The intern will conduct an initial intake with Shelter interns and will work with clients on a one-on-one basis as well as in a group setting.  The Shelter Case Management Intern will utilize crisis counseling intervention skills and provide ongoing crisis support to clients.  Interns will be legal advocates aiding clients in understanding Wisconsin’s legal processes, filling out and filing restraining orders and supporting clients throughout legal proceedings.

Sexual Assault Victim Response Intern

The Sexual Assault Victim Response Intern will be a crucial component in coordinating the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program with the community hospital.  This position will require researching other Wisconsin SANE programs and attending meetings with community partners.  Interns will collaborate with law enforcement, the court system and social services to ensure high quality and compassionate sexual assault service is available for survivors.  In this on-call position, interns will have the opportunity to interview sexual assault clients; provide crisis counseling, medical advocacy and legal advocacy. Interns in this position will provide educational sessions on the dynamics of sexual assault to law enforcement officers and medical personnel involved in the SANE program.

Community Relations and Marketing Intern

The Community Relations and Marketing Intern will focus on enhancing TimeOut’s relationships with community partners including law enforcement, hospitals and schools.  As a Marketing Intern, you will provide outreach presentations on TimeOut’s services and the dynamics of sexual assault and domestic violence to raise awareness of the crimes and prevent violence.  Interns will also have the opportunity to develop, plan and execute fundraisers to increase the financial sustainability of TimeOut while forming new partnerships within the community.

Business Management and Research Intern

The Business Management and Research Intern will learn the key aspects of running a non-profit organization.  Interns will research grant opportunities and follow through with the writing of grant proposals.  Interns will learn how to read financial data to compile financial reports and budgets.  Interns will develop policies and procedures related to the organization and to human resources.  This position will have interns expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support and expand existing program operations.
